BACK TO WINNING WAYS AGAIN!

24/06/2009

Cinderford Band were back to there winning ways again, when they took the 2nd Section crown by winning at the 41st Weston Entertainments Contest on Sunday 18th May 2009.  The contest was held at the Winter Gardens at Weston-Super-Mare Pavilion.

The band dominated the field with a fine display on stage. This was also added by the Fred Trego Memorial Trophy for the Best Euphonium Award, and this was given to our very own Anthony Murrell as best of the section. In all there was seven band's in total in our section, and the band came 1st with 187 points by taking "The Bailey Trophy".

In second place there was City of Bristol with 186 points, and third place was Phoenix Brass with 185 points.

The adjudicator for the 2nd section was  Mr Steve Pritchard-Jones, who in his mind picked "a well deserved win" for Cinderford.

Well done to all involved in making this a great success for the band. It was going to happen sooner or later, and it was great for it to happen at a new contest that the band has not visited for a long time.

ST. GEORGES DAY CONCERT

This year the band played at the Forest Hills Golf Club's annual St. Georges Charity Concert which was held at  the golf club's clubhouse on Sunday 19th April 2009. The band and the audience were full of St. Georges cheer, and of course the flag waving to Rule Britannia always helps. Our guest vocalist for the band was Mrs. Christine Turner. This was the programme the band played on the day.

First Half

  1. The Standard of St. George

  2. Nuns Chorus

  3. The Girl I left behind me

  4. The Lark in the Clear Air

  5. Sailing

  6. I have only eyes for you

  7. Sing-a-long No2

Second Half

  1. Rose of England

  2. There always be an England

  3. I vow to thee

  4. Jerusalem

  5. Rule Britannia

  6. Pomp and Circumstance

A great concert in which the audience enjoyed very much and participated in, which is a very typical Cinderford Band Concert I may add. We hope to see you very soon.

CINDERFORD BAND'S OPEN DAY

22/03/2009

The band was proud to organise it's annual open day which was being held on Saturday 21st March 2009 at the Foxes Bridge Centre, Cinderford. With the percussionists from Tredegar to come and help out, and with Clive Lewis and his helpers doing there bit, everyone enjoyed a action packed day!

With new players joining us, we hope that next year will be as successful as this year!

TORQUAY REGIONAL AREA CONTEST

24/06/2009

The band had a very good weekend, but unfortunately it was not to be the band's day regarding the results. Having played well, the band came a lowly tenth place. Having worked hard at the test piece obviously this was a very disappointing result for us.

However, the band will continue to provide excellent music at it's concerts, and the band will endeavour to come back next year to rectify this years disappointing results at the area.

The band will also be competing at this years Weston-Super-Mare contest in May and the Wychavon Festival Contest in September also.
