This page is aimed at giving you information on the West Country Regional Finals Contest which is being held yearly at the Riviera Centre in Torquay. The sections are split between the two days, and it is held once a year to determine which band's may get promotion or demotion from there current section. This is done on a points system. The winning top two band's from there section go to the National Finals later in the year, playing against all the top band's in the UK from there section to become UK Champions. The 'Areas' or 'Regional's' as they are now known were initiated in 1945 following the reorganisation of the National Championships under the guidance of Edwin Vaughan Morris. The current Regional Championships are held during March and April of each year in Scotland, North of England, North West, Yorkshire, Midlands, Wales, West of England and London & Southern Counties, where bands are divided into five sections, each playing the same set of test pieces. The winners and runners up in each area are then invited to compete at the Finals. If the number of entries permits, additional bands may be invited.
